Four-Year MD Program
SGU’s School of Medicine, the premier Caribbean medical school, offers a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree program that provides both practical and critical thinking skills needed to succeed as a practicing physician.

Four-Year MD Curriculum Overview
The four-year MD program consists of a 157-week curriculum that is typically completed within four calendar years.
The MD program is broken down into two phases: Basic Sciences and Clinical Training.
- Year 1 and Year 2 (Basic Sciences), students complete their courses on the True Blue Campus in Grenada. Students learn through traditional lectures and laboratory sessions augmented by small–group sessions and case–based learning exercises.
- Year 3 and Year 4 (Clinical Training) happens at SGU affiliated hospitals and clinics across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Grenada using bedside teaching and augmented by lectures, small groups, and directed study.
The curriculum for our four-year program gives you the foundation needed to succeed as a physician, and prepares you to grow your practice into a thriving career in medicine.

How many graduates get a residency after graduation?
Our graduates find postgraduate positions (residencies) through a variety of ways. Many of our graduates attain US residencies through the Match program a few months prior to graduation. Some seek US residencies outside the Match and others look for postgraduate training elsewhere—in their home country, in research, or elsewhere. This year, 94% of eligible US 2020 graduates who applied for a postgraduate position obtained one at the time of graduation.*

How do SGU students perform on the USMLE?
St. George’s University students who took the USMLE 1 for the first time in 2019 achieved a 94 percent pass rate, marking the 11th consecutive year that SGU’s overall pass rate surpassed 90 percent. The more than 1,250 SGU students taking the exam for the first time hailed from 48 countries over six continents. They posted an impressive mean score of 221, with a mean score of 227 for SGU’s Canadian students.

What is the average MCAT and GPA of students entering the MD program?
The average cumulative GPA is a 3.3 and the average Science GPA is a 3.2. The average total MCAT score is a 498. These are our averages, we do not have minimums. The School of Medicine Faculty Student Selection Committee does a full review of each applicant and seeks students who demonstrate both academic and non-academic skills to be successful in medical school and the subsequent practice of medicine.
